A well-maintained wooden piece of furniture lasts throughout childhood — and sometimes several children. Good news: with a healthy finish, care is simple. Here are the right things to do, and those to avoid.
Everyday cleaning
For routine care, a soft, slightly damp cloth is enough. Then wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid standing water and harsh products: a water-based finish cleans easily, with no stripper or powerful detergent.
- Soft damp cloth, then a dry cloth.
- A very mild detergent if needed, never an abrasive.
- No repeated disinfecting wipes (they dull the finish).
Handling common stains
| Stain | What to do |
|---|---|
| Marker / pencil | Damp cloth + a little mild soap, without scrubbing hard |
| Sticker | Peel off gently, remove residue with a lukewarm cloth |
| Water mark | Dry at once; don't let it stand |
| Stuck-on food | Soften with a lukewarm damp cloth, then wipe |
Protecting the wood
- Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources (radiator, fireplace).
- Avoid prolonged humidity and continuous full sun.
- Wipe up splashes quickly.
- Felt pads under the feet protect both the furniture and the floor.
Reviving and repairing
From time to time, a light renewal of the finish revives the wood. And if a part wears out or breaks, it can often be replaced: a well-made piece of furniture is repaired rather than thrown away. That's the whole point of furniture designed to last — see our workshop and our approach.
To avoid
- Abrasive products, steel wool, scouring pads.
- Solvents, alcohol, pure bleach.
- Cleaning with lots of water or soaking.
- Prolonged exposure to sun or heat.
